I have been wondering why our government would hand $150,000.00 to SWSDA for a review of the Georges Bank moratorium and when the Oceans First Taskforce did nothing, the government did not demand the money be returned. Where is the $150,000.00? It is a joke.
A reader asks where the $150,000 Oceans First Task Force money (non-tendered contract from Dept Energy while Rich Hurlburt was minister)is:
$75,000 of it has been swallowed into the gaping maw of SWSDA operating funds, $22,000 was reportedly spent on the booze and smoked salmon-filled Norway junket (Anderson, Cliff Hood, Rich Hurlburt, etc etc.)
$75,000 (year two) is waiting to be claimed by SWSDA as soon as someone turns their back, despite that fact thatL
- NOT ONE Task Force meeting has occured
- NOT ONE scrap of research has been done
- Dept of Energy said on Apr 22 "The Department expects to see the Ocean First Task Force's Year One deliverables significantly completed prior to any such decision (year two funding)"
It is not a joke. It is very serious. SWSDA is supposed to follow regulations, but if they do not who is going to regulate the regulations? Not the RCMP they only enforce the Canada Criminal Code, and they have already been asked to look at SWSDA to see if SWSDA is cooking their books. The Nova Scotia Auditor General has not done an independent audit either. My suggestion is for anyone who cares to write you local warden who is also a board member of SWSDA and ask what is so secret at SWSDA. What is the truth anyway?
I bet "Frank Does Europe", 13-22 Jun 05, cost us more than crystal from Austria, duty free booze, and Jason Hollett's $500 room expense. Did anything positive come out of this trip, or have I missed something? I assume the Norway binge was during another period, or were Hurlburt and Hood in on this one? What a tangled web they weave.
