I hope the good news on the no tax rate increases in both the municipality and town hasn't allowed the ratepayers to sit back and think all is well for another year.
This is our chance to see that changes are made for our children's and grandchildren's future. With SWSDA's history I can't think of one reason for our involvement in this defunct Yarmouth Society. Seven months is going to fly by, so a spark is needed to get them moving on the issue. Let's show them we aren't the apathetic bunch they think we are! Down with the closed door meetings deciding OUR FUTURE with OUR TAX DOLLARS. We want TRANSPARENCY NOW.

When it comes to economic development in the Shelburne area, we have to work with what we have. We have ocean and we have dry land. We have already hurt what we could be getting from the ocean. Fish stocks are down. Just reciently a Dalhousie scientist said Canada needs to set goals and develop a plan to get to the goal. We have lots of land that could be developed into sometype of farm land, be it sheep herding, or cattle, or grape vines. We also have potential wind energy. Problem there is there is so much red tape to build wind farms, it is almost impossible. There could be hundreds of wind turbines up past Indian fields, in a area that would not bother anyone. We need to develop our natural resources. That is all we really need to do.

Lets hope that "develop" has replaced "exploit"!

Oh,the tax rate did not rise but assessments did! Business tax skyrocked! How many businesses will close? Yes,times are good......

12:09 Was the big increase in the town's business tax rate related to the phase out of the provincial business occupancy tax?
3:53 Ever been to sea Billy? Am I mistaken or are wind farms normally positioned where winds are fairly constant, namely coastal areas.

People with"clout" here seem to reserve their influences for their own pleasures.Beware of the class(caste) system that exists here.Everyone beats upon the Mayor but what about the council.Where are they?

1058 After seeing what Mattatall pulled off last night I bet if she had a street party on that stretch of road and we brought our paint brushes it would get done - may not be the straightest lines you ever saw. Doesn't Mahaney live in that area?

12:00, I don't agree with the caste system theory, but we definitely do have current and past local pols who could add a lot of information about their dealings with SWSDA over the years - namely Alan Reid, Alan Delaney, Raymond Davis, Pat Nickerson and Paulette Scott. It would be a breath of fresh air to hear their rendition of the rise and fall of SWSDA.
